City of Joy

City of Joy is a unique project, composed of different homes, care centers, and integral services operated by different organizations, religious congregations or institutions that share a mission. It was created as a response to the needs of the community, through concrete and coordinated activities. Likewise, it is designed to attend the social problem and serve the most vulnerable people in the state of Quintana Roo. Annually, it supports more than 40,000 people per year.

Integrate a community of specialized institutions with a solid Christians values, providing ideal spaces for the attention of vulnerable groups, supporting them in their integral development so they can reach their goal of dignifying people’s lives.

Be a replicable attention model of self-sustaining and harmonic communities for the transformation of vulnerable groups, that gives confidence in any place that is needed to bring the joy of serving and living with love and dignity, and therefore transform to the community and its environment.

Proposal for AMCIS community participation

Although the City of Joy Foundation has not expressed specific needs, we visited them and found many opportunities to contribute by using IS/IT to support their work. Some of our ideas are:

  • A system (and hardware) for the elderly to have more interactions (and activities).
  • A system for the primary school for learning more about computers or for interacting with similar students elsewhere in the world
  • A system to help battered women learn something useful
  • A system for the thrift store to better control the inventory or to advertise the existing stock through mobile-friendly websites
